In contemporary Jakarta the past is represented at monuments, museums, buildings and other institutions, which in part relate to colonial heritage. In our presentation we will investigate the state of Indonesian-Dutch academic cooperation in the field of heritage studies and conservation. What could be improved and what is already going well? Secondly, we will use the lens of heritage studies to reflect on the broader state of Indonesian-Dutch cooperation academic cooperation regarding our shared history. In the past it has oft been emphasized that the latter should be improved to come to a truly shared investigation and understanding of our past. We will identify hurdles in and propose improvements for Indonesian-Dutch cooperation in the field of colonial history and heritage studies.
