Nurhaya has been involved in nursing education since 2008. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Universitas Hasanuddin and holding a Master’s degree Major in Nursing Education from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Sheffield, UK. Currently she is pursuing her Doctoral degree in Public Health at Universitas Hasanuddin with a research focus on developing instruments for assessing patient media education in order to improve patient health Literacy & Self-care Management.
Nurhaya’s passion lies on health literacy and patient education, recognizing that healthcare providers often lack awareness of their patients’ and families’ health literacy levels, leading to ineffective communication. Nurhaya is also an entrepreneur and the founder of the Indonesian Epilepsy Community. With 14,000 members across Indonesia, this community aims to raise awareness, provide education, and challenge the stigma surrounding epilepsy, led by Nurhaya who is herself a person with epilepsy (PWE).
She has produced several journal articles in peer-reviewed journals related to her expertise. Currently, she is involved in research collaboration with University of Melbourne which emphasizes on improving accessibility for women and people with disabilities at Universitas Hasanuddin under PAIR Australia Grant Scheme.
