BIOGRAPHY

Edwin de Jong is Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University, The Netherlands. Together with Bagus Takwin he is currently (2021-2025) heading the interdisciplinary programme ‘Resilient Indonesian Slums Envisioned (RISE): Building an inclusive governance with people and water to make social-ecological interactions more resilient to water-related disasters’, financed by NWO-WOTRO/RISTEK-BRIN. His research interest is in social-ecological interaction processes that affect local people’s livelihoods, wellbeing and control over land terrestrial and aquatic resources, using a mixed methods type of approach. His most recent work on these subjects has been published in the Journals Sustainability, Maritime Studies, Ecology and Society, International Journal of Sustainability Policy and Practice, Critical Asian Studies, Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, Wetlands and the Asian Journal of Social Science. He is teaching a variety of courses around contemporary theories on societies and change as well as on Advanced Research Methods and has been organising the ‘Advancing and Innovating Research’ (AIM) seminar series on a variety of new research methods, including virtual ethnography.
