Event Details
The annual rise in temperatures underscores the severe threat that climate change poses to
humanity’s survival. Law and policy are crucial in halting the Earth’s temperature increase,
mitigating climate change impacts, and providing adaptation strategies for human civilization.
The right to a healthy environment is at risk if countries do not take action against climate
change’s adverse effects. This session will address two key issues related to realizing this right:
corruption and climate change.
The first part of the discussion will focus on corruption in the environmental sector. Corruption
has devastating impacts on the realization of a healthy environment. Combating corruption and
climate change must go hand in hand, as it is challenging to achieve environmental rights
without safeguarding funds and ensuring their effective and efficient use.
The second part of the discussion will delve into climate change litigation. Climate litigation
is seen as a vital tool in achieving the right to a healthy environment. The discussion will
examine the connection between corruption in the environmental sector and the realization of
this right. Additionally, the session will explore climate litigation in Indonesia and the
Netherlands, demonstrating how it serves as a means to uphold the right to a healthy
environment. In conclusion, the speakers will discuss prospects for research collaboration on
these topics
