Maternal death is one of the most important indicators for the quality of health care. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of Indonesia is ranking 50 from 137 low middle income countries, whereas the Netherlands has one of the lowest MMRs, compared with other high-income countries. (World Health Organization, 2019)

UMC Utrecht has history for collaboration with some of the universities in Indonesia. Mostly about blended learning and capacity building in the field of epidemiology (Health I). But regarding to maternal mortality, there is no such intensive collaboration yet. From this seminar we want to initiate for future collaboration between maternal death review committee from Indonesia and the Netherlands. Joined research projects, i.e what can maternal death review committee learn from each other and what are the differences between the countries and how benefit the communities from this collaboration.

In this session, we will give brief overview on maternal death registration and audit from point of view of maternal death review committee in Indonesia and the Netherlands, recent research on maternal death in the Netherlands, also ongoing and future work in Indonesia. The format of this session will be seminar with target audience are the member of maternal death review committee, researcher in maternal health, and maternal mortality program stakeholder (politicians, decision makers, NGOs, researchers, students, pregnant women, patient organizations in both countries
