The process of decolonisation of knowledge in Indonesia was intricate and pivotal in the nation’s development following independence in 1945. Despite its significance, this process remains convoluted, particularly regarding its implications for higher education. Disentangling epistemological and curricular ties from colonial hegemony, notably Dutch influence, presents numerous paradoxes, especially when involving scholars deeply entrenched in colonial paradigms. This panel aims to delve into these intricacies, emphasising their contemporary relevance for both Indonesian and Dutch audiences.

Through interactive discussions and presentations, participants will engage in a nuanced dialogue, gaining insights and strategies to further the decolonisation agenda within academic institutions. A thought-provoking question will guide our exploration: Are we there yet? This discussion is not only pertinent for understanding historical legacies but also for shaping the future trajectory of education in Indonesia and beyond. By critically examining the challenges and opportunities of decolonisation, we can envision a more inclusive and equitable academic landscape that fosters diverse perspectives and knowledge.
