University of Riau (UNRI)
The University of Riau was established from the shared desires and ideals between the people and the Riau regional government. This desire was realized by forming the Riau Sunday School Preparation Committee (P3TR) in Tanjung Pinang. However, after the provincial capital of Riau moved to Pekanbaru, the Committee was moved to this city. The pioneers of the establishment of the tertiary institution were Colonel Kaharuddin Nasution, Datuk Wan Abdurrahman, Soesman Hs. and Drs. Sutan Balia. From the hard work of the courtship, the Riau University Foundation was formed, after which the university was established. The university was named by the University of Riau with the Decree of the University of Riau Foundation No.02 / KPTS / JUR / 62 dated 25 September 1962, subsequently reinforced by the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No.123 dated 20 September 1963 which took effect from 1 October 1962.
