Flooding is a yearly phenomenon in Jakarta (and various cities in Indonesia). It is caused by urbanisation of the surrounding areas on the upstreams of the river basin. One possible solution is to use permeable asphalt mixes (PAM) to increase the area of water infiltration. Through literature review, we look at the properties of PAM, its characteristics, and different studies regarding its water filtration performance and durability.

The result of this review is that permeable pavements are usable in Indonesia, as it has already been used in other tropical countries. They have adequate water infiltration capabilities, though whether it is enough to be used to alleviate flooding is not yet known. Maintaining its water infiltration capabilities is important, as clogging can reduce road safety and durability.
