Lignocellulosic biomass is considered the renewable carbon source for organic chemicals. Lignin, one fragment of biomass, consists of polyaromatic which can be used for the substitution for petrochemicals. Decomposition of lignin leads to phenol monomer having numerous applications including the precursor for cyclohexane. Cycloalkanes are highly potential to apply for fuels, monomers, and solvents. Recently it has been reported that cycloalkane based fuels are suitable for sustainable aviation fuels. One of cycloalkanes namely cyclohexane can be synthesized from the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of phenol. HDO of phenol involves a reversible dehydration step leading to harsh reaction conditions when the reaction is carried out in the aqueous phase. To overcome this hurdle, an innovative reaction system is required. Biphasic catalysis can be applied to tackle this issue. In the biphasic system the intermediate product will be extracted to the non-polar oil allowing the reaction taking place far away from the equilibrium. Furthermore, the application of hydrophobized catalyst considerably accelerate the dehydration resulting an efficient HDO. The efficient HDO will potentially manifest a profitable upgrading of renewable biomass<br />
