BIOGRAPHY
Tatang Muttaqin, S.Sos., M.Ed., Ph.D., is Acting Director General of Vocational Education at the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT).
Tatang Muttaqin obtained his bachelor’s degree in Communication Managementen from Universitas Padjajaran (Bandung-Indonesia), his master’s degree in Education Studies from Curtin University of Technology, Australia, followed by his doctoral degree in Sociology from University of Groningen, the Netherlands.
From 2019 to 2021, he worked at the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) as Director of State Administration and Director of Higher Education, Science and Technology from 2021 to 2023. He is also a member of the James Coleman Association and a fellow in the Groningen Research Centre for Southeast Asia.
Besides writing articles in the national newspaper, he also published a chapter in Decentralisation and Governance in Indonesia (Eds. Holzhacker, Wittek, Wiltjer, 2015) and an article in School Effectiveness and School Improvement, 1-31 (2019) entitled “The achievement gap in Indonesia? Organisational and ideological differences between private Islamic schools.”.
