BIOGRAPHY

Jeroen Schouten is a Dutch internist and intensivist, associate professor and senior researcher at Radboudumc in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Jeroen Schouten earned a PhD in Infectious Diseases and Implementation Science and has been involved in qualitative research with a focus on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) ever since. As senior researcher, he has co-authored > 100 peer reviewed publications on understanding and improving hospital antimicrobial use. He is experienced in qualitative and quantitative research methods and has been involved in many (inter)national initiatives to improve antibiotic prescribing (e.g. for ESCMID, ESICM, ISAC and WHO). He is currently responsible for 6 PhD thesis trajectories, all in the field of AMS. He heads the Radboudumc Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and is director of Drive AMS: a capacity building program for Antimicrobial Stewardship, that focuses on the step wise implementation of AMS activities in healthcare institutions in low resource settings.

He is currently part of the ESCMID Education subcommittee and coordinates the ESCMID Certificate European Training Program for Antimicrobial Stewardship, a two year postgraduate training program for infectious diseases physicians, microbiologists and clinical pharmacists. He is also member of the Executive Committee at APUA.
