
BIOGRAPHY
Peter van Tuijl is former Director of Nuffic – the Netherlands Organization for Internationalisation in Education Southeast Asia office, based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He has forty years of international work experience with a focus on strengthening democratic governance, international education, human security and the role of civil society. Peter has also been Nuffic’s Programme Director for three EU-funded Higher Education programmes in ASEAN and Myanmar. In Indonesia, Peter has worked for Kemitraan, Partnership for Governance Reform (2000-2004, and was an Advisor to the Indonesian National Police, under the ICITAP Program, United States Department of Justice (2004-2007). From 2007-2016, he was Executive Director of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) based in the Netherlands. He has published op-eds, articles and chapters in books, academic journals and other media on the role of civil society, accountability, human rights and human security, as well as on regional organizations and social and political developments in Indonesia.
