BIOGRAPHY
Kiki Rizky Soetisna Putri is a researcher and lecturer based in Bandung, Indonesia. She currently teaches at the Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and is the co-founder of the Center for Indonesian Visual Art Studies (CIVAS ITB), a research laboratory dedicated to preserving and studying archives related to the history of the Bandung School—an intellectual and artistic movement rooted in the Faculty of Art and Design, ITB.
At CIVAS ITB, Kiki manages and curates significant collections, with a particular focus on materials related to the history of the Bandung School. She oversees preservation, documentation, and research of these collections, which include Hindu-Buddha artifacts and other heritage objects relocated during the colonial era. Her role at CIVAS also involves integrating historical collections with contemporary art practices and educational programs, ensuring that these artifacts continue to contribute to the understanding of Indonesian art history. Her initiatives often combine archival research with modern technology, fostering collaborations that bring new perspectives on the provenance and significance of these artifacts within the broader narrative of Indonesian modern art.
Kiki holds a PhD from the Graduate School of ITB. Her dissertation analyzed individual and collective practices that intersected with sociocultural issues in Bandung’s art scene after the 2000s. She is currently engaged in several research projects, including the reconstruction of the artistic practice and working process of the late female artist Umi Dachlan. In 2024, she was selected as one of the visiting scholars in the Faculty of Arts Indonesia Initiative at The University of Melbourne.
In addition to her research, Kiki is committed to empowering women and marginalized groups in academia, as reflected in her teaching and mentorship of students at ITB. Beyond academia, she co-founded Lumina Kultura, an independent research initiative based in Bandung dedicated to advancing inclusive knowledge and amplifying underrepresented voices in Indonesia. Established in 2015, Lumina Kultura has organized various activities, including free writing classes and study groups, aimed at supporting young researchers and expanding access to scholarly resources
