Pandemic Preparedness and Building Resilient Healthcare System Against Human Pathogenic Diseases
Authors: Dr.ir. Zenlin Kwee

The PARAATHEID project aims to strengthen healthcare systems in Indonesia and the Netherlands against the growing threats of human pathogenic diseases, particularly those exacerbated by climate change. As global temperatures rise, infectious disease patterns are shifting due to altered seasonality, increased vector mobility, and disruptions to public health infrastructure. Climate-induced stresses, ranging from workforce shortages to environmental instability, may pose critical challenges to healthcare preparedness and resilience.<br /> PARAATHEID brings together a multidisciplinary consortium integrating public health, urban planning, information technology, policy analysis, and law. The project applies a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., stakeholder interviews, observation, migration tracking, and socio-economic and spatial analyses) to map vulnerabilities and evaluate system readiness.
