Event Details
Our gamified approach to river revitalization fosters community engagement and sustainability through interactive learning, using nature-based solutions to restore and protect river ecosystems. By linking Indonesia and the Netherlands, we enable collaboration among local communities, students, researchers, and policymakers, promoting shared knowledge and environmental stewardship. This initiative addresses the challenge of scaling impact across diverse ecosystems. The game encourages participants to explore sustainable solutions for river health, deepening their understanding of ecological, social, and economic factors. Targeting Gen Z students, local communities, and stakeholders, it offers a hands-on learning experience that drives behavior change. he goal is to strengthen the bond between people and nature, fostering collective responsibility for water conservation. The game contributes to global efforts to promote Water Friendly Cities, with a focus on Indonesia’s river ecosystems, and offers a scalable model for wider regional impact.
The session highlights the Muntok River, West Bangka team within the River Cities Network, initiated by the International Institute of Asian Studies (IIAS). Muntok, a heritage city known for tin mining, pepper plantations, and cultural diversity, provides the backdrop for the game. Participants are challenged to transform six urban areas through scenarios and tools, overcoming obstacles to create a water- and river-friendly city.
