Event Details
In both the Netherlands and Indonesia the colonial history both countries share is increasingly visible and more widely present. For example, in the Netherlands, narratives in museum exhibitions are becoming more inclusive with different, often painful, perspectives on this history, and in public space, statues and street names which represent colonial history are the topic of vivid discussions. At the same time in Indonesia, former Dutch colonial urban spaces are being revitalised through private and public initiatives into popular hang-outs. In this panel discussion, Dutch and Indonesian experts will reflect on the different aspects of this revitalisation of colonial urban spaces in Indonesian cities, and of the engagement with Dutch-Indonesian colonial history in both Indonesia and the Netherlands, particularly by young people. The audience is actively invited to participate in and contribute to this discussion.
