Development of Coconut Fiber Based Particleboard
Authors: Nugroho Mamayu Hayuning Bawono S.T., M.T.

Researchers explored coconut fiber as an alternative to wood for making particleboard. We tested 15 specimens using the Response Surface Methodology-based Central Composite Design (CCD). The optimal composition included coarse fiber, novel adhesive, and a hot press temperature of 170°C. Notable properties of the optimal specimen were a density of 0.53 g/cm³, flexural toughness of 99.53 kgf/cm², tensile toughness of 3.02 kgf/cm², modulus of elasticity of 1.34 × 10⁴ kgf/cm², moisture content of 7.49%, and thickness swellings of 25.68%. The adhesive used consisted of Urea Formaldehyde, Biosilica, Natural Latex, and H₂O.
