Day 2
October 11th, 2023
15.15 – 16.30 GMT+7 / 10.15-11.30 GMT+2

Rotterdam has introduced its WeatherWise 2030 Programme Framework, which one of the strategies that has been mainstreaming by the Municipality of Rotterdam is climate adaptation programme. Several projects have been implemented since the last decade throughout the city as an initiative to address those challenges with the approach of blue-green development.

Meanwhile, Rotterdam has sister city cooperation with Jakarta, as a fellow delta city since 1986. One of the main focuses to be strengthened is on urban water management. In 2014, it established the Dutch Training and Exposure Programme (DUTEP) for government officials from Jakarta Capital City Government to have internships in Dutch institutions on how to plan and manage urban water challenges in Rotterdam.

In this session, there will be a representative from a DUTEP participant who had finished his internships at the Municipality of Rotterdam. Together with one of his mentors as a panel, he will examine some lesson-learned in Rotterdam to be applied into a study case in Jakarta, which is the Blok M – Senayan Corridor. On the other hand, Jakarta has planned to no longer become the capital of Indonesia. This will have an impact on the vacancy of government buildings that have the potential to be developed for the public interest.

This project could be an opportunity for Jakarta to develop a public space as part of Jakarta Urban Renewal Project that is well adapted from potential flooding through this blue-green development approach. The target audience of this session will be suitable for government officials, developers/landowners, students and researchers who are concerned with climate adaptation issues.
