
BIOGRAPHY
Ward Berenschot is a professor of comparative political anthropology at the University Amsterdam and senior researcher at KITLV. Studying politics in India and Indonesia, he is the author of Riot Politics: Hindu-Muslim Violence and the Indians State (Hurst/Columbia University Press, 2011), Democracy for Sale: Elections, Clientelism and the State in Indonesia (Cornell University Press, 2019, with Edward Aspinall), the translated version of which has been published in the Pustaka Obor Foundation Indonesia with the title Democracy for Sale: General Elections, Clientelism, and Country in Indonesia. His latest book is Kehampaan Hak: Masyarakat vs Perusahaan Sawit di Indonesia with Ahmad Dhiaulhaq, Afrizal, and Otto Hospes.
